Donald A. Jones, DDS, FAGD, MAGD, ABGD

A Diplomate of the American Board of General Dentistry and a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry, Dr. Donald Jones has extensive experience in the field of dentistry. Dr. Jones began practicing dentistry in 1967 after earning his dental degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, School of Dentistry, and completing a General Practice residency at Waterbury Hospital in Waterbury Connecticut and then an Advanced General Practice residency at Walson Army Hospital at Fort Dix, New Jersey. While serving as a dentist in the Army he traveled all over the world serving in areas such as Korea, the Netherlands, West Point Military Academy and Ft. Campbell. Dr. Jones also served as Program Director of Hopkinsville Community College and Elizabethtown Community College’s Dental Hygiene programs.

He created Back to Basics Dental Center in 1998, opening the first location on Ft. Campbell Blvd.  He grew it to three locations: the second being across the river on Hwy 48 next to Foodlion and the third on New Providence Blvd, eventually merging the Ft. Cambpell and New Providence practices into one.  He sold the practice to his daughter, Dr. Jennifer Cornell in 2011.  Even with all his credentials Dr. Jones has always continued to attend numerous continuing education courses to keep up to date in the latest in dental treatment, techniques, and materials. He continues to love dentistry and all it has to offer. He enjoyed developing personal relationships with his patients. He is often heard discussing the latest in politics, news events and farming stories. Dr. Jones maintains professional memberships with the American Dental Association (ADA), Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), Tennessee Dental Association (TDA) and the local 8th District Dental Society where he has served as Treasurer, Secretary and President. He is a Fellow in the International College of Dentists (ICD), American College of Dentists (ACD) and has both his Fellowship and Masters in the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD). He earned his 50-year pin with the American Dental Association in 2017.   As a retired Army officer, he is a life member of the Military Officers Association of America, Association of the United States Army and the National Rifle Association. Married for over 50 years, Dr. Jones has three children and seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. In his spare time, he enjoys woodworking, forestry, farming, shooting, hunting and church activities.

Dr. Jones has recently taken Emeritus status within the practice after the COVID pandemic.  At his age, the risk of contracting the virus and the extra required PPE he felt it was time to fully retire from chairside dentistry.  He is still available to our team for consultation anytime and still attends team meetings and social event within the practice when he wants to.  His daughters continue to own and manage the practice.
